Let’s sneak up behind grandma
And pretend to be Jawas on Tatooine.
It was one of our favorite games.
But despite our precise tip-toeing,
The floor boards always creaked,
Giving us away.

Let’s see how high I can push you on this swing,
And maybe you could finally touch that tree branch,
Once and for all.
You took off alright.
I should have trusted your instinct when you said,
“I have a bad feeling about this.”

Let’s climb this tree all the way to the top
Just to jump when we forget our way down.
Maybe we could find Master Yoda here.
It may be behind a dumpster,
But this swamp sure looks like Dagobah to me.

Let’s dive into the river and pretend we are in
an underwater city in Naboo.
Neither of us can hold our breath for so long,
Nor see underwater quite clear,
But in the words of wise Master Yoda,
"Do or do not, there is no try."

Let’s pedal as fast as we can on our bikes,
And chase racing speeder bikes through Endor.
Well that one pine cone took us off course
And flipped both of our bikes.
At least the bush we landed into
Wasn't a Sarlacc Pit,
But the garden snakes felt like it's tentacles.
The Force wasn’t strong with us that day.

Let’s ride Tauntauns on Hoth,
Or I guess dad’s back would do.
While he runs on the beach,
And the sand can be snow.

Let’s replicate the Clone Wars on Geonosis
And treat every kid to a grand scale lightsaber fight.
We were expecting two when twenty showed up.
They had to cheat to beat us, of course.
But they left with ice cream instead of battle scars.

Let’s make an army of clones,
With only our minds.
Let’s build the Millennium Falcon with aluminum foil,
'Foil' the Empire's plans and
Blow up the Death Star,
Which was in fact just a sticker on our wall.
Let’s construct our own astromech droid,
Teach it commands,
And make it our best friend.

As we got older,
We stopped pretending and started doing,
Just as everyone wanted,
And look at where it got us.

Let’s look up at the stars and not down at our feet,
And remember our pasts going into the future.
Let’s escape and get lost, if just for today,
To a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
Based on childhood outings around our apartment complex with my younger brother ten years ago. Star Wars was my very first obsession. Years after Revenge of the Sith was released, we just became interested in other things as all of us do, but Star Wars was still very much in my heart. The Force Awakens was amazing and made me feel that young again, when I watched Revenge of the Sith in a theater on my ninth birthday. :)
